Privacy
What we hold about you, why, and how to take it back. The short version is on this page; the controls are in your account.
The four reasons we use your information
Running the service. Your email, your name and the address of your place, to do the things you ask us to do — order a service, list a place, take a booking, and tell you about them. This one is required; without it there is no service.
Checking messages for safety. Messages sent through Vuhom are checked automatically for phone numbers, emails and links before they send — for safety, fraud prevention and enforcing our terms, and nothing else. Also required.
Telling you about new places and offers. Optional, off unless you turn it on, and it changes nothing else.
Using anonymised data to improve Vuhom. Optional. Your name and contact details are removed first, and we never use your messages or your photos for it.
Your exact address
People searching the rent market see the area your place is in — never the street address, and never a pin on a map. The exact address is released when a booking is confirmed, and to the operator doing the work, only while the job is live.
Taking your data with you, and closing your account
Everything we hold that is about you can be downloaded as a file you can open and read, with real field names. Both are in your account, under Profile.
Some records survive a closed account because the law says so: invoices and payment records for six years under Canadian tax law; reviews you left, with your name removed, because they are part of another person’s record; and moderation records where an incident was raised, because that evidence is not ours alone to destroy.
Quebec
If you are in Quebec, Law 25 gives you rights beyond the federal ones, including the right to ask us to stop using information and the right to a human review of a decision made about you automatically. Write to support@vuhom.com and it reaches a person.
